In the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025, the Weizmann Institute’s Rehovot campus was struck by two missiles in a targeted attack. Remarkably, and thankfully, no one was harmed.

The Ullman Building - home to the Moross Integrated Cancer Center, the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, and several core facilities, was completely destroyed. A new building for advanced and intelligent materials, just weeks from completion, also sustained a direct hit. In total, five buildings, including the Wolfson Building for Biological Research, have been rendered inoperable, and over 50 laboratories have been lost. Most of these were focused on cancer research and life sciences, along with several working on environmental sustainability - fields dedicated to saving lives and safeguarding the planet.

In the hours and days following the attack, our scientists, students, and staff have responded with extraordinary resilience and determination - securing critical infrastructure, salvaging materials, and preparing to resume their vital work. While the path to recovery will take years and require significant resources, our immediate priority is to support displaced students, relocate affected laboratories and minimise disruption to research.
