The Canterbury Tales is structured as a frame narrative, where a group of 30 pilgrims gathers at the Tabard Inn in Southwark, London, before embarking on their journey to the shrine of Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. To pass the time, they agree to tell stories, with each character sharing their own tale. Chaucer intended to include a total of 120 stories, but he completed only 24 before his death.
